JUDGING CRITERIA AND HOW TO WIN IN THE EYES OF THE CAL(LAW)HAN
So I promised this a while back but I figured I'd make a quick list of things to do when writing your RP's because some people are stuck in a mentality and need help to be pulled out of it.
So let's go.
* Instead, look at the bigger picture. What's happening overall in your world right now? In your application form, the most important part of your profile was the “Overall Objective” and a lot of you guys missed a big opportunity to really paint a story with it for me to get behind. Maybe a better way to word it was motivation but look at it like this. Why did Michael Callahan become a wrestler? Was it to win belts and be famous? Obviously. That's why they all do it. But there has to be a deeper purpose. For Callahan, wrestling was a global platform to make people aware of his politics and to clean up the product so he can say to potential voters “Look at me and what I did. I made this hardcore wrestling show family friendly. I get things done. That's why you should elect me to run your state”. As you wait for the card and you write your promo's, think about the deeper purpose of your character and how a win is going to affect that.
* Low self esteem isn't sexy. The objective is to give me a reason to want you to win and get behind your character. I think he's left the fed now but I'm going to use Noah Walsh's promo last week as an example. He did the exact opposite of this. He buried himself as being this washed up hack, a loser that couldn't cut it any more. So if that's the case, why should I give him the win over other people who are confident in their own abilities? You can still tell that old timer story but you have to spin it positively and say “I'm old and the kids at home think I'm a washed up hack but I KNOW I've still got fuel in the tank. I know I'm still be the best and I'm going to prove it when I smash X, Y and Z in the match tonight”. If you don't think you can win, why even show up to the ring?
* It shouldn't be the centre piece of your promo's, that should always be the match, but look around you at what's going on right now. What's the big storyline in the fed right now? Either for everyone or for whatever programme you're in. At the moment, everyone should at least be hinting at being in the runnings for the championship if not outright saying “I want to win this match and put myself out there as someone who can be our first champion”.
* Finally, talk shit about your opponents and for God's sake don't talk up bad stuff that happens to your character like it's a major deal. If you get smashed in the results, don't go all roadmap wrists about how life is meaningless because you lost one match. Your opponent will do that for you so there's no real need. You want to be Ric Flair saying “I'm the sixteen time world champion”, not “I'm the sixteen time world champion which also means I've lost it sixteen times as well but I'm going to win because okay”. Even if you lose your match last week, find the one spot where you did something good (I try to ensure everyone gets at least one) and big it up as the kind of show stealing moment that makes you awesome.
* Do all this, throw in some good zingers for your opponents and you'll do a lot better. Thanks for reading.

NOTE: I gotta' add that I can't speak for Johnny Rebel but we mostly agree on this.
