While it's likely I'll eventually own both, I do have the XBone on pre-order. The fact is, quite simply, between my 360 & my PS3, I use my 360 way, way more. Now, I won't get into any arguments about resolutions, specs, exclusives or DRM... what I will say is that MS owns the advertising at this point. I love both of these new XBone ads:

I loved my Xbox, I had awful luck with the 360, went through three red rings of death and then got a PS3 and still have the first one I bought. I'll probably wait a year or so before I make my decision but I'm leaning towards PS3. Also, this:

It's 'always on' in the sense that Kinect 2.0 is always listening for the specific command for it to wake up, so when I walk into the room and say 'X-Box: On', it turns on.

Greatness Awaits > TV Awaits
let me add i will probably own both within the next three years, but for now PS4 offers too much to consider Microsoft's sports/shooter/spielberg product.

In the last six months I've gone from 360 die-hard to PS3 addict simply because I started playing the thing. Xbox One's NSA bullshit turns me off something spectacular.

I don't see enough value in money to go near either console close to launch to be honest. The vast majority of the console games I play are AAA budget ports/sports games, so the "big decision" doesn't matter much to me. I'll just go with whatever my friends/the Internet say.
There's no killer nextgen game I know about, and PC point-and-click stuff like Civ, the Paradox games and DOTA should scratch my gaming itch until something sick comes out and I have to make an impulse buy. My laptop is old and bad but it can still run the kinds of PC games I play.

When I was a younger man watching ST:TNG each week, I remember saying to myself: "...As soon as I can get my hands on a fully voice-activated computer system like that, I'm gonna..." so the first time I saw the fully voice-activated demo for the XBone, I knew it was my first choice this gen.
As for the NSA comment, most internet users give away more information daily then MS would collect through a gaming system in a year.

Hell aren't the newer tv's and cable boxes supposed to have face recognition and other strange way-too-personal information gathering technologies?

I also heard a rumor that Xbone would have a facility to analyse the shit that's in your room and use the information to personalise advertisements. If you coat your bedroom wall in Hannah Montana posters for instance then you'll get a whole bunch of Miley related content advertised to you.

The launch line ups for both systems are poor. So I won't be getting one anytime soon.
With that said, Sony usually is better in the 1st party department, so I'm more than likely going with a PS4.

I'm for sure getting the PS4, more for about the same price...
I so up what Joe said....too many people had the ring of death on their 360's not anybody I know has had one problem with their p3 so I'm def sold on getting a p4.

Yeah with me I've only had the problem with the red light once with my 360 compared to when I had a PS2 that broke down more than once and ended up getting 3 to 4 consoles out of it.
I've even seen two PS3's break down and one of the break downs was the day someone got the console. My flatmate recently had his PS3 breakdown so Playstations aren't realible either. In fact I've heard more bad stuff about Playstation 3 than I have with X-Box 360.
But due to the stuff I heard with being unable to play games offline which is just stupid along with being unable to play my old 360 games on the X Box one I'm going for a PS4.

Another thing I've read that's really god damn stupid with the X Box One console is that you can't play second hand games. I think that's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard of so it's totally a PS4 for me all around.

I've never had red ring. I've never had white light. I have however had two Xboxes die due to graphics card melting.
